One of the most common ingredients in acne treatments these days is salicylic acid. Acne treatments containing salicylic acid include body washes and facial treatments. Alongside benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid is used most widely among the different acne and skin care products. Lately, there has been an influx of manufacturers choosing to use salicylic acid instead of benzoyl peroxide in their products.

Salicylic acid in acne facial washes works by shedding dead skin cells. By stopping the clogging of pores that normally occurs when dead skin cells build up, acne products containing salicylic acid slows the shedding of cells inside follicles.

Salicylic acid also helps to dissolve blackheads and whiteheads. However, it must be used continually for it to be effective in keeping the skin acne free. Once you stop, pore clogging will start immediately. Salicylic acid does not kill bacteria, but it does break up clogged pores.

You may be wondering if there are any side effects from using salicylic acid on the skin. Some people complain that salicylic acid acne products dry out their skin. This is due to the fact that salicylic acid encourages peeling of the skin’s top layer. This is the a common side effect to using products with salicylic acid, which can be easily treated with the application of a gentle moisturizer.

Since it absorbs through the skin and it is unknown how salicylic acid might affect an unborn baby, products containing salicylic acid should not be used during pregnancy.

With no exaggeration, there are hundreds of acne products containing salicylic acid. So when you’re choosing a product, look for a concentration of salicylic acid between 1% and 2% for the best results. People with sensitive skin do best with a 1% salicylic acid solution, whereas people with more severe acne do better with a 2% salicylic acid solution.

Some of the leading acne treatments with salicylic acid include Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, Neutrogena Body Clear Acne Body Wash (1%), Murad Acne Body Wash (2%) and Phisoderm Clear Confidence Acne Body Wash.

Acne, one of the most common skin disorders is a great cause of worry for millions of teenagers as well as adults. In order to get rid of it, most people rely on any treatment that comes their way. Half the job is done if you find the right acne treatment. The other half depends on factors such as diet, hygiene, personal care and the like.

Effective Natural Remedies For An Acne Free Skin

Natural treatment or alternative therapies are widely accepted methods to solve acne issues. Some of the popular natural care for acne includes washing the face daily twice with warm water, avoiding oily makeup items, drinking enough water, using natural astringents and other herbal remedies.

Herbal ingredients such as honey, cinnamon, lemon juice, orange peels and fresh mint juice can be used for treating pimples. The positive aspect of natural treatment is that it has no side effects and the treatment is also less expensive.

As honey has great antibacterial properties, applying a honey mask on the face heals small blemishes. However, you need to ensure that you do not rub your face roughly or wash your face frequently as this can worsen the pimple problem.

Alternative Remedies

For those who do not want to use topical creams or other drugs for acne, here are some alternative remedies:

Though many physicians do not see any relation between diet and acne, for an alternative medicine practitioner, this is of great importance. While sugary drinks and eatables increase the chance of acne, beta-carotene rich foods such as pumpkin, carrots, vegetables, oranges, and nuts help to fight this skin disorder.

Vitamin therapy is yet another effective way to keep pimples at bay. For a healthy skin, the body needs a number of vitamins. Though vitamins cannot cure pimples, it can definitely reduce inflammation and infection. Intake of Vitamin A is one of the best medicines for acne cure. It is found in fish oil and dairy products. This vitamin is also responsible for skin healing. Mineral zinc is also recommended for acne sufferers. Apart from helping the body to fight infection and inflammation, zinc helps in preventing scarring. Vitamin B found in eggs, nuts, leafy vegetables, fish, and whole grains can reduce stress, cholesterol levels, and inflammation. The vitamin E found in nuts, sunflower seeds, vegetable oils has many protective and healing properties.

Have you heard of aromatherapy for treating acne? Tea tree oil, which is a natural antiseptic agent, is the basis for it. You can directly apply the oil to the affected area or do a steam facial pouring some drops of tea tree oil in hot water.

Yoga can improve blood circulation, thereby reducing stress and boosting the healing property.

Natural treatment or alternative therapies also demand great commitment. You are advised to eat a balanced, nutrient rich diet and avoid processed foods, alcohol, tobacco, excess salt and foods rich in iodine. If you follow these natural ways, you can attain freedom from acne as well as from many other diseases.

As discussed, Acne Cures can branch out from Natural Acne Treatments to Alternative acne remedies. However, choosing a cure should always depend upon the intensity of your problem and the doctor’s advise. To know more about acne related treatments visit Reduce Acne.

Author: Mark MacKay

1.) Can you get (catch) acne from other people?

Answer: While certain types of acne do contain a bacterium, it is located in the hair follicles under your skin and can not be transmitted through contact. So no, touching or kissing someone with acne will not cause you to develop acne.

2.) If both my parents had acne does that mean I will develop acne?

Answer: Studies show that heredity does play an important role in determining who develops acne. So children of parents who had or have acne are at a grater risk then others. It should be noted that as with any disease just because you have a family history, does not guarantee you will get it; only that you have a much great chance then someone with no family history.

3.) Does eating or drinking certain foods cause acne?

Answer: Over the years studies have suggested everything from chocolate, candy, fried foods, sugar, drinking water, orange juice to milk can cause you to develop acne or make existing acne worse. However their is no scientific evidence to support any such results. There are so many factors effecting acne development that it is very difficult to isolate any one cause. So whether or not to avoid certain foods or drinks is really just an individual preference. If you find your skin reacts negatively to certain foods, then just don’t eat or drink it.

4.) Does dirt on my skin cause acne?

Answer: Having proper hygiene will help with healthy skin. However dirty skin will not cause acne, but anybody with acne should be extra vigilant in having a good cleansing routine. Over washing can irritate your skin and make it more vulnerable to infection. Washing with a gentle cleanser will help reduce skin cell build up and keep your skin looking at its best. So find a balance and try not to over wash.

5.) Does stress cause acne?

Answer: Stress has been shown to make acne worse, not directly cause it. So if you suffer from acne you should be aware of how you react under stress and develop ways to help manage and keep it under control. This will not only help with controlling your acne but also benefit your over all health.

6.) Can you develop acne once you are out of your teens?

Answer: The simple answer is yes. In fact many people who never experienced acne as a teen can develop it in their 30, 40, and 50′s.

7.) Does make up or sunscreen make acne worse?

Answer: Certain products that are overly greasy and thick can plug the skins follicles leading to the development of acne. Not all products affect everyone the same way, so while you many develop acne using one product someone else may not. If you are prone to acne you will need to be extra careful with what you put on your skin. Try to always use oil free products and also test a small amount on a patch of skin for a few days before using it all over.

8.) Will exercising affect my acne?

Answer: While it is still unclear why this happens, vigorous exercising that causes your body to heat up and sweat does seem to cause acne to get worse for certain people. One theory is that exercise increases the production of sebum, the oil that when to much is produced can lead to acne.

9.) Can a facial help with acne?

Answer: There is no easy way to answer this question. The term facial is used to describe everything from an over the counter product you buy from a drug store and do it yourself to something done at an expensive spa for hundreds of dollars. The bottom line is anything that might irritate your skin can make your acne worse.

10.) Why does my acne stop responding to my current treatment?

Answer: Acne medication, like all medications can become less effective over time as your body builds a resistance to them. It might be necessary to use acne treatment regiments on a rotational basis for optimum effectiveness.

Author: Jessica A Anne

In order to prevent, or get rid of acne, it is really important to avoid the foods that cause acne. Acne is a skin condition that is usually focused on adolescents and young adults. One of the main contributors to acne is the different foods that cause acne. These foods that cause acne are quite common but can still be avoided just through common sense. It follows that what a person eats will ultimately affect his or her body. This is very true especially when it comes to ones skin.

Foods that cause acne are going to manifest inside of the skin which in turn shows symptoms and signs of acne when the food’s ingestion has been excessive or too frequent. These foods are going to be fatty and are either cooked in oil or grease. Now, it doesn’t matter if they are cooked in healthy oils, it’s oil in general that is going to pose a threat (in the form of acne) to your skin. Certain foods themselves are fatty, which means that they contain a large amount of fat which can be transferred to the person’s skin when digested or processed by the digestive system. These junk foods could be foods that cause acne but it depends on the individuals sensitivity to the foods ingredients.

What To do? Reducing the consumption of foods that cause acne is recommended by most dermatologists and experts on the field of skin care. In fact, many would recommend setting these foods aside for the time being, especially for those who are so prone to the skin condition. Keeping the skin oil free and clean, especially the facial skin, also should help reduce the acne symptoms occurrence. If you touch the sensitive facial skin with possibly dirty hands, bacteria and dirt could build up on your skin.

While foods that cause acne may be varied and dependent on how a person’s body reacts to the food if you reduce the amount of acne causing foods you could also be reducing the acne occurrences. If you have no idea what foods you are sensitive to, you might want to increase your water intake because this also will help eliminate toxins in your body.

You should also increase fruit and vegetable intake because they contain fiber, which is great for your digestion. Fruit and vegetables are seldom foods that cause acne, in fact, even though avocados are full of fats, there isn’t any proof that it will directly cause acne.

I highly recommend you check out this product review of a method to cure your acne with great food choices.
Acne is one of the most common skin problems faced by both teenagers and even adults. This skin condition can be quite embarrassing and annoying as well. If you are living with this health irritant, you may find that you actually avoid certain social situations because of a breakout. Be no worries, there are options available if you are battling acne. If you have acne, you can get rid of it, but you must be consistent with the treatment and strictly follow the instructions of your health care provider. There are many ways on how to handle acne, so let’s talk about a few of those.

When it comes to acne skin care products, there are plenty of options to choose from. However, the products you need may vary according to your specific problem’s severity, its reaction to medications and your budget as well.

Acne is actually a small hair follicle and pore infection. You might as well need more sophisticated treatments if you have a severe case of acne. Otherwise if your problem is a mild one, you may be able to treat it with over the counter products found at your local drugstore or super store.

You may find such products sold with toners and cleansers. These specific products are formulated to treat specific cases and problems of acne. A spot treatment work on existing zits on your body or face; while over-all facial washes prevent blemishes. However, some of these cheaper acne care products might seem to be budget-friendly but might also be the weakest among other expensive products.

There are various acne care products that have built-up a good reputation on acne treatments, such as the Proactive acne care product line. However although this brand may be a bit expensive, it still garners a lot of satisfactory results from its many loyal customers. Talk with your dermatologist to see if this is a good basic option for you to begin with.
If you are one of the many who suffer from acne, you are of course in search of an effective acne treatment. Not every case of acne is the same, and not every treatment works equally well for everyone afflicted with the condition. Everyone’s skin is different, so each treatment must be tailored to the specific patient. The most effective acne treatment for you may actually be bad for someone else.

The reason for this disparity in efficacy of different treatments is the fact that there are mnay different types of skin. People with dry skin (and yes, it is quite possible to have both dry skin and acne at the same time) benefit from moisturizing regularly. To many, this may seem counterintuitive, but having very dry skin slows down the skin’s natural healing process, causing acne outbreaks to last longer. Therefore, a moisturizing regimen can be a great benefit to acne sufferers with dry skin. Keeping the skin softer (and healthier) discourages breakouts and keeps them shorter when they do happen.

For those with oilier skin, washing too frequently is problematic. Washing too often strips the facial skin of it’s natural oils, causing it to overproduce and clog the pores, leading to breakouts of acne. The key if you are an acne sufferer with oily skin is to wash your face less frequently with very mild cleansers so as to leave some of your skin’s oils intact. This will discourage breakouts and keep them shorter in your case as well.

The best and most effective treatment for acne if you have oily skin is washing your face with a mild cleanser once or twice a day. Stay away from cleansers that contain course ingredients and astringents that contain alcohol. It is always important to apply an oil free moisturizer to your skin on a daily basis. By gently cleansing your pores and leaving some naturally produced oil your skin will find the perfect balance between being moisturized and clean.

Besides these simple steps, there are many alternative acne treatments you may not have thought of, many of them also in the “simple and natural” category. Among these are nutritional and herbal supplements. Zinc has proven effective in some studies, though zinc supplements should be taken with caution as too much can cause severe and unpleasant side effects. Tea tree oil, an ingredient in some cleansers, works well for many (and has some antibiotic properties – it is worth noting that antibiotics are sometimes prescribed by dermatologists for severe acne).

Different types of homemade facial masks and washes are also used as alternative acne treatments. These include washing ones face with a paste made of garbanzo beans, and applying a mask made of ground almonds and goats milk. Sounds strange, but there are many who swear by it. Diet has also been indicated as an important factor in controlling acne. A diet rich in beta carotene (think carrots, cantaloupe, etc.) has been touted as an alternative acne treatment.

There are also homeopathic acne treatments available, though it is probably a good idea to discuss these with your physician before embarking on a course of homeopathic treatments. Many of these remedies have not been clinically tested, so exercise some caution with them. Alternative acne treatments can be effective for your case, as can simple skin care as a preventative measure.
